Acts 12:19 – 23

God doesn’t always deliver every one of His children from every situation

“This is the voice of a god, not of a man.”

BECAUSE HEROD DID NOT GIVE PRIASE TO GOD

Herod should have known better

Herod was of Jewish decent

Deuteronomy 6:4 - Hear, O Israel : The LORD our God is one LORD:

Exodus 20:1-3 And God spoke all these words:

"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.  3 "You shall have no other gods before me

Isaiah 48:11 - For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed?  I will not yield my glory to another.

Only God is worthy of worship and praise.

Only God is to be worshipped and praised.

It was PRIDE and ARROGANCE that brought severe punishment upon Herod.

Proverbs 16:5 - The LORD detests all the proud of heart.  Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.

James 4:6 - God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

Sinful pride is often accompanied with BOASTING and ARROGANCE

It is often LOOK AT WHAT I HAVE DONE.  I AM BETTER THAN YOU!

Luke 14:7-11

When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable: 8 "When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, 'Give this man your seat .' Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Lucifer

Isaiah 14:12-15

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.  Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

I will ascend

I will exalt my throne

I will sit

I will ascend

I will be like the most High

Deuteronomy 8:10-14

When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. 11 Be careful that you do not forget the LORD  your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. 12 Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, 13 and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, 14 then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD  your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

17 You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me."

We need to constantly be on guard to not allow pride to poison our spirit.

We are all sinners saved by grace.

Let us be careful to not become a Herod.

Let us be more like Jesus.

Let us humble ourselves and become a servant.

Let us consider others more highly than we do ourselves and demonstrate that through the actions and words of our life.
